Author Name: Daria Silvano Bruce
I was born in Talayong, Badian, in Cebu, an island in the Philippines. I am the fourth child in a family of seven. We lived in a small community, where everybody knew each other in the neighborhood, and we help each other like long-lasting loving friends. I led a group of teenagers to plow the fields and plant corn, sweet potatoes, and all other kinds of vegetables. I am a hardworking person. My parents had a big land and farm to plant any kind of crops that we could eat to sustain us daily. I started attending school at the age of five in Talayong Elementary School. My real name is Darling Silvano, as it is written in my birth certificate. I was very happy because my godmother was my first teacher in kindergarten, and she changed my name to Daria because all the boys at school started calling me “Darling, you are my darling.” My name was Daria throughout my college days. And when I went abroad to Hawaii, the name written on my visa was Darling Daria. It was changed to Daria when I became a citizen of the United States of America.
