I am not going to lie to you; not many writers can bag a significant book publishing deal worth millions. It’s the reality, not everyone can be Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, or Julia Roberts, right? But don’t be discouraged, there are a lot of ways to be a known writer and make book sales and speaking gigs.
Figure Out Your Brand of Writing
What kind of genre do you envision yourself writing? Self-help? Crime/Thriller? Sci-fi? Romance? This is an essential part of your identity, better choose the one that you’re more comfortable or natural doing.
It’s not a good idea to try to write in each of those genres as they have different kinds of styles. Plus, you don’t want your readers to be confused with your style. Just pick your niche and be good at it.
Just Write, Read, and Re-write
Do have a story forming up in your head? Write it. Do you want to inspire or help people to make them better in finances? Write it. Do you want to have a book that children and parents can enjoy reading? Write it. You get the picture, right?
Write the first draft, read, and re-write it again. It’s ok; no one has finished their book in one sitting.
Once you’re satisfied, speak to a publishing company to take a look or evaluate the content of your manuscript. Don’t worry; content evaluators will not judge your book, they will look for specific words or context that might put you in legal trouble. The reason is that most authors thought that they can write everything they want, but the industry truth is you can not, to prevent future problems – libel, copyright infringement, etc. Content evaluation is being done to protect you, the author, and the publishing company as well. The bottom line is you can have peace of mind knowing that nothing can go wrong with your book as far as content is a concern.
The book publishing process can take a few weeks, but I promise you it’s worth the wait. The feeling of seeing your book, holding it, and telling your spouse or kids about it is priceless!
